The Dinner Alarm
Same cat tower perch every single day. When dinner time arrives, meows with the exact precision of a kitchen timer. Litter, scratching, window time—all scheduled, all non-negotiable. Quiet, methodical, and instantly assesses whether that strange noise is a threat worth hiding from. The most reliable feline in the house.
At home
Breakfast is at the same hour and the announcement that precedes it is punctual to the minute. The same step of the cat tower for the morning nap, the same order to the grooming afterwards — face, then paw, then flank, no substitutions. Even the midnight run down the hallway lands near enough to the same minute that a clock could be set by a cat, and in this house one more or less has been.
Facing the unfamiliar
Change is the difficult part. A new chair in the corner interrupts a route that took months to lay down, and it gets circled for days before the route is redrawn around it. Guests are logged from the cat tower, politely and without warmth, and the visit ends at the hour the schedule says it ends, whether or not the guests agree. An unfamiliar sound is measured first, retreated from second, approached third, in that order. The order has never once been varied, including for the vacuum.
With you
You are part of the timetable, and that is meant kindly. This one is at the bowl before you have reached the kitchen, on the same cushion the second you sit down, and at the bedroom door at the hour it has decided the day ends. Affection comes in fixed portions — one head bump in the morning, one settled hour after dinner — never skipped and never extended. Fifteen minutes late with the bowl and you learn precisely where you stand.
