Feeding time must be precise. The litter box, food bowl, sleeping spot — every place must stay put. Tracks every family member's movement and expresses cold disapproval the moment the routine shifts. This household's strict commandant.
At home
The bowl belongs where the bowl belongs. So does the bed, the box, the scratching post and the second cushion from the left. The same shelf at the same hour of window duty every afternoon, and grooming after, in the order it has always been done. Move any of it and a long stare arrives from the doorway, held steadily until you put the thing back.
Facing the unfamiliar
A guest is a disruption, observed from a fixed distance in the hallway and judged over the following hour. Even the window shift keeps its schedule — same sill, same hour, same birds — and anything unscheduled out there gets a flat look and nothing further. A new box on the floor waits two full days before anyone is allowed to imagine it has been accepted. It is a box.
With you
You are the least reliable part of this household, and it has been noticed. Ten minutes late and the call comes from beside the bowl, flat and unimpressed. Rearrange the furniture and there is a full day of silence from the top shelf. Get the hour right, though, and one head-bump lands against your knuckles. That is the entire ceremony. It lasts under a second.
