The Calculating Loner
Does not hand out affection freely. Purrs and head bumps are reserved for the chosen few, and food must pass the vibe check first. Observes the household from heights, always calculating. Which is why the day this one approaches you becomes a family milestone.
At home
The highest shelf in the room belongs to this cat, and the household is read from up there the way a chart is read: who is home, which door is ajar, where the bowl stands, when the sun reaches the rug. Even the food is appraised before the first bite, as though the kitchen were on probation. Nothing here is impulsive. Every descent from that height has a reason attached to it before the paws leave the shelf, and nobody downstairs is told what the reason is.
Facing the unfamiliar
New furniture is not explored, it is assessed — one slow circuit, one leap, one verdict, and the file is closed. Guests are handled the same way, ranked from the top of the cabinet inside ten minutes and rarely reconsidered. Another animal in the room produces neither a chase nor a retreat, only a long level look from a height nothing else can reach. The carrier is the one object here that has never been forgiven, and everybody has learned to keep it out of sight until the last minute.
With you
Purring is not currency here, and it is not spent on everyone. Head bumps are rare enough that the family remembers the dates. Most evenings pass on the shelf, watching the household run itself and joining none of it. Which is why the night this one comes down on its own, crosses the room and settles against your leg becomes a story told for a week — and why nobody in the room stands up for the next hour, whatever else they had planned.
