The 16 Cat MBTI Types

ISFJ

The Quiet Guardian

Observes the household from the windowsill or high perch, then greets your arrival with a subtle headbutt. On difficult days, settles beside you with soft purrs without being asked. Each night conducts a quiet patrol of every room, checking that the family is exactly where it should be.

At home

The day is spent keeping count. From the windowsill this one tracks who left, who is in the shower, who has not eaten yet. The front door opens and the cat is in the hallway for the head bump before the bags are down, then back to the post. At night the rounds begin — bedroom, hallway, kitchen — with a pause at each doorway to confirm that everyone is where they were left. The rounds end at your bedroom door, which is the reason that door has not been fully closed in two years.

Facing the unfamiliar

Guests are handled from the edge of the room and never the middle. A doorway is kept between this cat and the noise, and from there it checks on you far more often than on the visitors, in case the evening has become too much for the wrong person. In the carrier it presses toward whichever side your hand is on. Something unfamiliar in the house is not exciting, only one more item to watch until it turns ordinary, which takes about four days and cannot be hurried.

With you

On a bad evening there is no need to call. It arrives, settles against your hip, purrs at a volume just loud enough to be noticed, and then stays well past comfort into something closer to duty. It supervises dinner from the second chair. It is sitting on the bathmat when you get out of the shower. Being loved by this cat is less a feeling than an appointment, and nobody has ever been asked whether the hour suits them.
