The Silent Operator
Watches from the windowsill in silence, living entirely by its own logic. It doesn't meow for attention, won't ask for dinner—every action calculated, nothing wasted. Then the moment demands it—a moth appears, a stranger enters—and it moves with flawless precision, a quiet specialist who doesn't explain, just executes.
At home
Nothing here is wasted. A spot on the windowsill with a clear view of the room and the street is chosen once and then held, in silence, for hours. No crying at the bowl, no announcements, no following anyone from the kitchen to the couch. Then a moth crosses the ceiling and the shape of the room changes: one crouch, one leap, finished, back to the sill as though the interruption had cost nothing. The moth is never mentioned again. Neither is the lamp.
Facing the unfamiliar
A strange noise gets investigated rather than escaped. The doorbell goes and this one neither hides nor greets; a position is taken with a clear exit behind it, and the guests are watched working the room from there. New furniture is mapped in a single circuit and never considered again. The carrier is entered without argument, endured without a sound, and left behind without a grudge. It is the only cat in the building that treats the whole business as a commute.
With you
Expect no running commentary. There is no kneading at bedtime, no head bump asking for one in return, and for long stretches of the week this cat appears to be conducting a separate life on the other side of the room. But it always knows which room you are in. On the night something goes bump in the hallway it is between you and the sound before you have got upright, which is the closest thing to a declaration this one makes.
