The Restless Explorer
Prowls windowsills at midnight scanning the nighttime world, then suddenly dashes through the hallway on a whim. Greets visitors by head-bumping their legs and purring enthusiastically. No plans whatsoever—just follows the mood of each moment, rolling in boxes and exploring corners with fresh curiosity every time.
At home
Home is a floor plan that keeps changing. A nap in the laundry pile at noon, the top of the wardrobe by three, a paper bag by evening — never the same spot twice. Somewhere past midnight the hallway becomes a racetrack, and the tail tip starts twitching a full second before the sprint does. Grooming stops halfway because something moved outside the window, and the raised back leg stays up for a while, forgotten.
Facing the unfamiliar
A guest at the door is a gift. Ankles get head-bumped before the coat is off, and the bag left in the hall is inspected from the inside. A new chair is claimed within the hour, corner by corner. At the balcony screen the chirping starts the second a bird lands, then the whole matter is abandoned for a rustling leaf on the far side of the apartment.
With you
You are the most interesting thing in the building, at least until something else is. The lap gets taken mid-sentence, the purring starts before you have settled, and then, with no warning, off it goes. At an hour with no name the cheek-rubbing resumes against your chin, with no sense at all that anyone was asleep. You are not woken up so much as included.
